Threads of Fate (Video Game)
By Square Enix

Squaresoft has satisfied my taste once again with Threads of Fate. If you have played Brave Fencer Musashi, this game will seem a very familiar. It is a mix of action and RPG elements. First of all, the player can choose from two different characters: Rue, a boy with a mysterious past, or Mint, an ex-princess that was kicked out of the castle for being rambunctious and rowdy. Both stories are mostly the same, but approaches to situations and even some areas are different. Rue's story is very serious, while Mint's quest is relaxed and humorous. Rue and Mint each offer different play styles. Rue has the ability to transform into previous creatures that he has defeated. Using this ability, he can avoid obstacles and solve puzzles. Mint, on the other hand, gets to use magic. Mint's story is more fun, in my opinion, because she learns an array of spells and insults everybody else in the game in a funny fashion. Both characters have been searching for a "relic." Rue has been searching for it to revive his lost love, Claire. Mint wants to get revenge on Maya, her younger sister who will now be successor to the throne, and Mint also wants to achieve world domination.

The game's music is superb, while the graphics are even more excellent. The game sounds and appears crisp and clear, and the characters are a little cartoony but without becoming ridiculous. The game has a very active feel which keeps you alert. Your character runs around and fights at the same time, which is reminiscent of the style in Brave Fencer Musashi. The gamer can finish both Rue's and Mint's scenarios for a special treat! Since it is hard to get every secret on the first run, playing the game a second time is still great. Overall, the game is fun to watch and fun to play, and can make you laugh aloud. I highly recommend this game to anyone who wants an exciting adventure!
